The Shell Beside the Bed

The shell lay beside the bed

that night giving dreams,

Of a crab living in a coral reef

            Untouched by man.

Bright Parrot fish play

            In the clear blue water,

Warmed by the yellow sun.

Ocean sky scrappers,

            Rare and beautiful coral.

Growing slowly, bit by bit.

Sea anemones wave

as the octopus creeps by.

Then the dream brings a dark shadow

            Over all the reef.

Catamarans float overhead,

            Man has appeared.
